7:30 AM - 5:30 PM    Mainely Summer Day Camps - 2020 (Daily Option) - Daily - Week # 8 (August 3rd - August 7th) "Maine Waters Week"
Mainely Summer Camp 2020 is a 10 week day camp (7:30a - 5:30p) for children entering Kindergarten through grade 5. This program is going to start on Monday, June 15th.Staff will be led by ASA Director Kristy Lincoln along with a group of high school, college and adult leaders.  Camp will be limited to 50 children each week, unless there is additional capacity needed. If there is a need for more capacity, children will be separated into smaller groups to allow for more children to participate, for example groups for both Grades K - 2 & 3 - 5. Trips are going to be determined by what is available for beaches and businesses. The program will be based here at the WCC, with access to WMHS grounds. We will be using the Community Playground, ball fields and WCC Trails to promote outdoor activities. Weekly schedules will be subject to change as we work through this unprecedented time.American Red Cross Swim Lessons will be included throughout the summer every Tuesday (if able too, according to State guidelines and restrictions, due to the Covid 19 Virus)Please find camp documents linked below. 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM    WCC Unsinkables Swim Team - Summer WCCU Swim Team 11 AND UNDER
DUE TO COVID-19, SUMMER SWIM TEAM WILL BE OFFERED BUT RUN DIFFERENTLY. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR DETAILS!The W.C.C. Unsinkables is a registered U.S.A. swim team, with swimmers competing in U.S.A. swim meets throughout the season. WCCU swimmers are making a splash in the world of competitive swimming in Maine. Our swim team begins with our Preseason Swim Clinic at the end of September and will run for two weeks. The team will be coached this year by Lori LaPointe (her 22st season) and Nori McLeod as the assistant coach. Nori has been apart of the WCCU community in many facets over the past 18 years, as an athlete, captain, sibling, volunteer, and coach. She continued her swimming career through college attending the University of New England, swimming all 4 years and being named captain her senior year. She was the Head coach for Wiscasset High School from 2013-2017 and the Assistant Coach for Hyde School from 2017- present. Lori has 30+ years of professional teaching/coaching in swimming, soccer and basketball. Lori was awarded Maine Swimming Coach of the Year 2003 and a Zone Coach from 2010-2014. Volunteer Coach Paul Lazarus will be rounding out the staff this year, his passion for swimming will help bring the team to the next level of competition. The WCCU coaching staff provides positive encouragement and goal setting for the athletes and encourages them to build a lifelong love for the sport of swimming. GREEN Group:  (Practice 3 times / week)  8 & Under/First year SwimmersThe GREEN group must know how to swim three of the four strokes, have a basic understanding of how to use the pace clock and be comfortable in simple structured sets.  Emphasis is placed on fine tuning all four strokes, turns and starts, and implementing a more structured workout set. Participation in competitive swim meets is encouraged.  WHITE Group:  Practice 3 times / week) 8 & Over/Seasoned SwimmersThe WHITE group is the highest level WCCU offers. The primary focus of this groups swimmer is to prepare for the more rigorous practices. Swimmers work on technique and efficiency, as well as swim more challenging workout sets.  This group is designed for the swimmer who  is focused on reaching their highest potential as an athlete and  thrives on a competitive spirit.  In addition to time spent on technique, the main focus of the group is an intensive training regimen. Monday/ Wednesday/ Friday: Green Team:3:30-4:30PMWhite Team: 3:30-5:00PMCOVID-19:  SUMMER SWIM TEAM:  MON/ WEDS/THURS  3:30-4:30PM  11 AND UNDERS  AND 4:30-5:30PM 12 AND OVER IN AN ATTEMPT TO KEEPING WITH CDC GUIDELINES, PRACTICE NEEDS TO KEEP ALL ATHLETES SAFE AND STAY SOCIALLY DISTANCED. Mainely Summer Day Camps 2020 is a 10 week day camp (7:30a - 5:30p) for children entering Kindergarten through grade 5. This program is going to start on Monday, June 15th.Staff will be led by ASA Director Kristy Lincoln along with a group of high school, college and adult leaders.  Camp will be limited to 50 children each week, unless there is additional capacity needed. If there is a need for more capacity, children will be separated into smaller groups to allow for more children to participate, for example groups for both Grades K - 2 & 3 - 5. NO TRIPS at this time, they will be determined by what if any destinations are available and also by the ability to transport. The program will be based here at the WCC, with access to WMHS grounds. We will be using the Community Playground, ball fields and WCC Trails to promote outdoor activities. Weekly schedules will be subject to change as we work through this unprecedented time. American Red Cross Swim Lessons will be included throughout the summer every Tuesday (if able to do so, according to State guidelines and restrictions, due to the Covid 19 Virus)Please find camp documents linked below. Mainely Summer Day Camps 2020 is a 10 week day camp (7:30a - 5:30p) for children entering Kindergarten through grade 5. This program is going to start on Monday, June 15th.Staff will be led by ASA Director Kristy Lincoln along with a group of high school, college and adult leaders.  Camp will be limited to 50 children each week, unless there is additional capacity needed. If there is a need for more capacity, children will be separated into smaller groups to allow for more children to participate, for example groups for both Grades K - 2 & 3 - 5. Mainely Summer Day Camps 2020 is a 10 week day camp (7:30a - 5:30p) for children entering Kindergarten through grade 5. This program is going to start on Monday, June 15th.Staff will be led by ASA Director Kristy Lincoln along with a group of high school, college and adult leaders.  Camp will be limited to 50 children each week, unless there is additional capacity needed. If there is a need for more capacity, children will be separated into smaller groups to allow for more children to participate, for example groups for both Grades K - 2 & 3 - 5. NO TRIPS at this time, they will be determined by what if any destinations are available and also by the ability to transport. The program will be based here at the WCC, with access to WMHS grounds. We will be using the Community Playground, ball fields and WCC Trails to promote outdoor activities. Dates: fall and springThe American Red Cross Blended learning Lifeguarding course is to train entry level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to an aquatic emergencies and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over.In conjunction with the American Red Cross, The Wiscasset Community Center offers the lifeguard course two times a year. We offer a class in the spring and again in then fall. Upon completion of this course the participant receives a lifeguard/ First Aid/ CPR / AED Certification that is good for two years. 20 hours of in-water sessions and 7 hours of eLearning before course begins.A pre-course screening is required before signing up for course:   Swim 400 yards continuously these strokes in the following order:1.    100 yard front crawl using  rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing propellant  kick.100 yards breast stroke. 200 yards any combination of these two strokes. (There is NO time requirement for this skill.)2.   Swim 20 yards using front crawl or Breast stroke, surface dive to a depth of 9 feet retrieve a ten pound brick, return to the surface and swim 20 yards back to the  starting point with the brick.  (Note: Candidate must hold 10 pound brick with both hands and must keep his or her face above the water)  TIMED TEST 1:403.3.     TREAD WATER FOR TWO MINUTES WITHOUT HANDS - HEAD MUST REMAIN OUT OF THE WATER.Upon completing these skills, participant may reserve/ borrow a book and complete all pre-reading assignments. This course is a "Blended Learning" course which requires participants to complete the eLearning work 2 days prior to the beginning of course.Must show proof of age (Minimum age is 15)Course Length: Approx. 26 hours (Blended learning program) 7 hours online and 19-20 hours Skills sessions on-site!Course Schedule: See program flyer for detailsLocation: Wiscasset Community Center, 242 Gardiner RoadFees: Members:        $250.00 (Discount taken at time of registration)         Non-Members   $300.00

START DATES FOR THE NEXT GROUP SWIM LESSON SESSIONS BEGIN THE WEEK OF JULY 7!  PRIVATE AND SEMI PRIVATE LESSONS UPON REQUEST.   CDC Guidelines require private lessons offered to only one house hold at a time. The American Red Cross learn to swim program is designed to teach people how to be safe in, on or around water and to teach individuals of different ages and abilities how to swim in a positive aquatic learning environment.  The six learning levels teaches aquatic and personal water safety skills in a logical progression.  In the six levels, participants build on their basic skills to learn various propulsive movements on the front, back and side.  As the levels increase, participants learn to refine the different strokes and build endurance.  Each level includes exit skills assessments that put together many of the skills learned in the level.
